Rustic & Retro Barn Wedding Inspiration Session in Yucaipa, CA | Avrie & Eric
It all started with a bicycle.
A mint-green cruiser with the sweetest little basket inspired 12 vendors to come together to create what photographer Ariele Chapman says was truly a labor of love. “It was a 105-degree day in Yucaipa, CA with almost no shade in sight… It wasn’t your typical day for a styled shoot, but we made it work,” she shares. “When you think of a barn wedding, you think of a beautiful red or white barn with mowed green grass, evenly paved ground, and piles of hay,” Ariele says. “A Light In a Barn is a new twist on a barn wedding… Its bare landscape makes for an incredible space to make it your own… This shoot has real love, raw emotion, and throwbacks that will stand the test of time.”
The team collaborated on a number of DIY projects before the shoot, hand-picking each dish for the tablescape, customizing the honey-drizzled cake, and pulling together restored furniture to create a retro vibe. “We wanted to create a setting that was drool-worthy…” Ariele explains. “It was important to incorporate [everything] to match the setting, we did not want to take away from the beauty of the landscape, so we wanted to make it fit in it’s surrounding.”
I think we can all agree that the gorgeously outfitted VW bus is the highlight of this session, and the way these talented vendors managed to combine retro vibes with huskies and horses in the perfect rustic setting, is pure perfection!

“Although the shoot was styled, the love between this couple is beautiful and real, and the hard work that went into this shoot meant everything…”

“Our amazing florist made a beautiful floral display for the photo booth bus, which made it look like the most magical bus you’ve ever seen… We wanted to keep the florals fun [and] bright, but not too bright, and blend them in with the mint color of the bus and bike.”

“Don’t be afraid to try new things… Creating is meant to be fun and watching your vision come to life is the most inspiring thing.”

“Instead of having too much negative space, we created a space that didn’t overpower the background, which I think is something to consider when thinking of the alter you’d like as your backdrop.”

“Our florist combined the beauty of the landscape and the altar to create a one-of-a-kind setting. You could feel the romance from the middle of the field. We also created a beautiful dining area in front of the barn to showcase the beauty of the old vintage barn behind it. The table was a beautiful chocolate brown… adorned with simple and elegant glassware with gold silverware. We wanted to mismatch the items but still have harmony and unity within the color palette. We brought it together by adding in some metallics and candles.”
