Meet Amanda & Victor

Photography by The Chaffins

Amanda and Victor’s elopement story began like many couples’ – with wedding planning stress. As photographers Sammie and Micah Chaffin from The Chaffins shared: As soon as they got engaged they started trying to tour venues and plan a big wedding, but it quickly became clear that it was not the right fit for them. Every time wedding planning came up they would both get stressed and want to talk about something else, and seeing the stress other people were going through planning their wedding wasn’t making them excited for their own.

Everything changed when they discovered The Chaffins’ social media content about elopements.

“They came across our social media and immediately fell in love with the idea of eloping in Yosemite! They reached out to us and once we hopped on a call the rest was history,” the photographers explained.

What made Yosemite the perfect choice for this couple? It combined both of their greatest loves Amanda loves the water and Victor loves the mountains so they knew they wanted a spot in Yosemite that combined the two, the river at Cascades Picnic Area was the perfect fit.” Even more meaningful, “The first time Amanda ever went for a long hike was backpacking in Yosemite with Victor, so Yosemite held a special place in their relationship already.

Their Vision and Planning Process

For Amanda and Victor, saying “I do” meant chasing the kind of adventure that left them breathless—literally. From the moment they booked with The Chaffins, they had a team ready to guide them through every detail of their elopement. The Chaffins provide each couple with a comprehensive Elopement Planning Guide, giving them tools and inspiration to shape their day with confidence.

From the very beginning, Amanda and Victor knew they wanted their wedding day to be adventurous and true to who they are.

They mentioned early on in the planning process that they wanted to get into the water at some point, and we loved their adventurous spirit, shared The Chaffins.

Even after being warned that Yosemite’s waters would be ice cold in the spring, the couple’s excitement never wavered. For them, starting their marriage with such a bold, joyful experience felt like the perfect reflection of their love.

The Chaffins worked with Amanda and Victor to create a day that honored that adventurous spirit while leaving space for quiet, intimate moments. They mapped out a timeline that balanced iconic Yosemite backdrops with plenty of breathing room, ensuring the couple could slow down, be present, and fully immerse themselves in each moment.

Vows, Views, and a Daring River Jump

The journey into Yosemite built anticipation for the moments that would take their breath away. At Tunnel View, with the valley stretching endlessly behind them, Amanda and Victor shared private vows they created in the moment. Raw, honest, and deeply emotional, it was a pause to feel the weight of their love without distraction.

They continued their adventure with a hike to Bridalveil Falls, letting the mist and roar of the waterfall carry them into the magic of the day. At Cascades Picnic Area, they changed into their ceremony attire and prepared for the arrival of family and friends. Surrounded by their favorite people, Amanda and Victor exchanged vows by the river—a place that honored Amanda’s love of water and Victor’s love of mountains.

As the evening approached, they quietly slipped away to Swinging Bridge Picnic Area for a second outfit change. Hand in hand, they leapt into the icy Merced River, Yosemite Falls towering behind them. It was fearless, playful, and everything they had imagined—a bold declaration of their love and excitement for this new chapter together.

The celebration wrapped up at Lillaskog Lodge with dinner, drinks, and laughter. Amanda and Victor even surprised their loved ones with the video of their river jump, leaving everyone amazed, laughing, and inspired by their adventurous joy.

From intimate first looks to daring leaps, their day perfectly reflected who they are together: joyful, courageous, and deeply in love.

Permits and Leave No Trace in Yosemite

Planning an elopement in Yosemite requires proper permits and environmental responsibility. To get married in the park, you’ll need to obtain a Special Use Permit, which involves mailing documents back and forth with the park service. It’s important to start this process as early as possible to ensure everything is approved in time for your big day.

Leave No Trace principles are essential for preserving Yosemite’s natural beauty. When exploring the park, especially in the alpine meadows of Yosemite Valley, always stay on durable surfaces and designated trails to protect the delicate ecosystem.

If you’re planning an overnight stay, proper food storage is critical—all food must be stored in bear-safe containers, as bears are common throughout the park. During the day, keep all food completely out of sight in your vehicle with the windows rolled up.

Yosemite is one of the most popular National Parks in the country so it’s vital to preserve its beauty by adhering to the rules of the park and following Leave No Trace!

Expert Tips for Your Yosemite Elopement

Having photographed numerous Yosemite elopements, The Chaffins offer valuable insights for couples considering this stunning location. One of the most important considerations is timing. The Chaffins note, “Since Yosemite is such a popular park, try to plan your elopement for the Spring, Fall, or Winter to avoid the massive Summer crowds.” Working with an elopement photographer who knows the park well is also crucial. As they explain, “It’s a good idea to work with an elopement photographer that knows the park well and can take you to locations that are less crowded, or help you avoid the crowds at the popular spots.”

Understanding Yosemite’s unique lighting conditions can make or break your photos. The Chaffins emphasize that “lighting in Yosemite can sometimes be tricky as a lot of locations look great in photos during the afternoon but not in the morning, or the other way around.” They also point out that “in Yosemite Valley you often don’t get much of a true sunset since the sun goes behind the mountains long before it goes below the horizon,” which can affect your golden hour photography plans.

“Make sure to use specific locations when planning drive times. Many people will stay outside the park because Google maps says it only takes 30min to get to Yosemite from there, but that drive time is only to get to the park entrance. From the most popular entrance (South Entrance) it’s another hour before you reach Yosemite Valley or Taft/Glacier Point.”
