Eloping in Smith Rock State Park
Smith Rock is a great option to plan your elopement if you’re thinking about eloping near Oregon. Smith Rock is only 30 minutes away from Bend, Oregon, and it has some pretty epic sunrises. You can also find some pretty cool Airbnb locations nearby to get ready together or enjoy a romantic dinner after your adventure. This park is picturesque and the majority of its trails are pretty accessible, making it an awesome spot for inexperienced hikers.
If you do plan on eloping here, then consider planning an early elopement. The park does get more crowded later in the day. Another thing to consider is how many people you want to tag along with you for your wedding day. At Smith Rock, it’s ideal to have no more than 10 people with you. We, however, love this spot for more intimate elopements between the couple.
“Planning an elopement at Smith Rock State Park is a pretty simple process. All couples need to do is contact the office there and ask about reserving the amphitheater for their date. While they do not currently issue permits for the ceremony to be done outside of the amphitheater space, the couple should be able to take portraits along trails throughout the day.” [Emily, the photographer]
To avoid getting a ticket or fine, following the rules and make sure you’re following the LNT (leave no trace) guidelines. This styled session is a great way to see how you can elope at Smith Rock and still respect the land.
Details From This Styled Elopement We Love
Emily Skye, the photographer, included some pretty amazing details in this styled session, perfect for adventurous couples who are planning a Smith Rock elopement in Oregon. From the decorated hiking backpacks, complete with ‘just married’ signs, to the perfect picnic, this elopement was the perfect mix of minimal yet elegant.
Here are some of the elements Emily, the photographer loved, and we think would be perfect to include during your elopement:
- Customized Jackets that really rock who you are as a couple, and can also accent the surrounding natural features!
- Curated Picnic Snacks. Choosing snacks that bring back some nostalgia, such as something the couple shared on their first date, can be such a fun touch!
- Playing soft music on a small speaker throughout the day can be really fun as well. However, there are also some really neat natural sounds as well when visiting Smith Rock, such as the running river and the subtle sound of nesting bald eagles!

Should You Elope? Advice From The Photographer
Deciding to elope is an exciting moment in a couple’s relationship, but it can also be a stressful time. Struggling to decide whether you should elope or not? Emily suggests thinking about what really brings you the most joy as a couple.
“If it happens to be dessert before dinner.. do that! If you like to hike, incorporate a hike into your elopement. Heck.. If you love skinny dipping at waterfalls… DO THAT! Whatever you do.. make it a day that brings joy to the very deepest, truest part of your souls, and that feeling will be the base for your marriage.
You can remember that feeling by looking back through these emotional memories whenever times get tough! Set your own pace for your day, relax to the fullest, and enjoy the adventure!” [Emily, the photographer]
