Mountain Adventure Meets Intimate Celebration: Victoria & Tommy’s Hybrid Elopement in BC

Victoria and Tommy’s elopement was the perfect blend of adventure and intimacy, reflecting their love for nature and exploration. Hailing from Ontario, Canada, they embarked on a month-long journey to British Columbia, spending most of their time in a tent atop their truck as they explored the stunning landscapes. Their unique hybrid wedding combined the closeness of an elopement with the joy of sharing the moment with loved ones, all set against the rugged beauty of a mountain-side venue in Invermere. About This Elopement

“Victoria and Tommy are an adventure couple at heart. If you talk to them, you know that they are always planning their next adventure, and their elopement is the embodiment of that. They are from Ontario, Canada but traveled out to BC for the month of their wedding, spending it mostly in the tent above their truck. They did know, however, that they wanted their closest friends and family involved in their day. And so they planned this hybrid wedding/elopement, which included all the things you’d want from a wedding, but in a rugged venue on the side of the mountains of Invermere. The location includes a barn/cabin with places for everyone to sleep, and they spent a weekend away with their friends and family celebrating their day.” [Camille, the photographer]

Planning Your Elopement in BC

“The wedding took place on private property at a farm in Invermere, BC. This helped limit LNT since everything was near roads and could easily be packed up and out.

Eloping in Invermere (and more broadly, the surrounding Canadian Rockies), can feel intimidating, especially for out-of-town (and international) guests. But most locations really embrace it, and the whole process of getting a marriage license, and finding a location (and proper permits) is relatively easy and straightforward!” [Camille, the photographer]

Memorable Moments From This Elopement

From the photographer:

“Their dog, Stevie Nyx. She was the most beautiful and loyal golden retriever, who followed us around during the photos. She also made her presence known during their private vows, when she laid on Victoria’s dress. She was all around an amazing presence.”

From the couple:

“The scenery! We couldn’t wrap our heads around the beauty of where we were. Even standing at the altar it felt surreal to be surrounded by mountains and the people we love the most.”

Deciding to Elope

“Tommy and I have never enjoyed being the Center of attention. When we pictured a typical wedding with lots of people and a typical venue, it instantly robbed us of the joy we were looking for in this day. We didn’t want to be surrounded by family and friends who were there out of obligation, who weren’t genuinely happy for us, who would see our wedding as just another expense. When you strip the day down to what truly matters and cut out all the excess, you’re left with such peace and joy and we couldn’t have been happier with how it all turned out.

I started looking for locations in and around Banff because we have always loved the Rockies. Getting married in the mountains was an obvious choice for us. I wasn’t loving our options though, in terms of price mostly, so I gave up on that and just started looking for Airbnb options that could accommodate us and our few guests. Finding The House of the Friesians must have been a divine intervention because it couldn’t have been more perfect. We booked it before we even announced the date to our parents.” [The couple]

Planning Process

“Once we booked the Airbnb, I felt like I could just put my feet up and rest. My dad was our officiant, so that was easy. I was a little too easygoing in regards to the finite details of the day, so we did work with Rosie, from Rosie Leigh Events to make sure we didn’t forget anything obvious (like food). She worked with the food truck caterer we hired and the House of the Friesians, so we really didn’t have to do much at all other than show up.” [The couple]

Final Words of Advice From the Couple

“The biggest thing for us was being surrounded by only the people who were truly truly happy for us. Often at larger weddings there is so much obligation and cost associated with attending and that takes away from the experience for the bride and groom. To have such a small and intimate day allowed us to really breathe it in, in such a memorable way.” [The couple]
