meet Marissa Kay

Hi, there!  I am a photographer based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, but I’m totally available to travel ANYWHERE.  I’m obsessed with small, intimate weddings and adventurous couples that are madly in love.  My style is for the free-spirited bride and groom who prefer a brighter, airy, more romantic aesthetic over a moody, darker feel (think: the movie, 300).

I only take on a select number of clients per year.  One reason being that I also work full-time as a psychiatric nurse.  But, the main reason being that I fully devote myself to each of my clients.  I love planning engagement sessions with couples and making their vision come to fruition.  I work with couples before their wedding to create a photography timeline for the big day to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that all the moments they want to remember are indeed captured.  When editing my clients’ photos, I don’t just apply a pre-selected filter to each image and call it a day.  I literally go through each image individually and ensure that the coloring is correct, the image is straight, and that everything looks good (before applying my own preset to create my specific “look”).

If it sounds like we’d be a good fit for one another, I’d absolutely love to hear from you!  Please fill out the form below, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Fun Facts

I actually went to college to become a doctor, got a degree in Biology, and then became a psychiatric RN.  Ha!  I now work at a program for adolescents with severe anxiety, depression, and/or a suicide attempt. I absolutely love my job and feel so blessed to be able to support these youth.

I’m married to my high school sweetheart. We met when we were 15!

I grew up in Southern California, but moved to the Bay Area three years ago when my hubby got his dream job as an engineer at Tesla.

I have a terrible sweet tooth, and I absolutely love cookies and chocolate. I’m very picky though!

I come across as extroverted – very bubbly and talkative. But, I’m actually quite introverted and have to constantly put an effort in to put myself out there. The second I get home from work, it’s soooo hard for me to leave the house. It’s this constant battle of wanting to be social, but also wanting to sit on the couch in my pajamas, watch Netflix, and edit photos.

What Clients are raving about

“We love Marissa Kay Photography! Marissa is one skilled photographer, and her sweet and caring personality are just the cherry on top. Marissa was available and responsive, listened to what we wanted and made us feel comfortable and confident throughout our big day. I did not have to worry even once about having all of our special moments captured – and they all in fact were! I cannot recommend her enough.”

“Marissa is AMAZING. Extremely kind and generous to do business with, and completely professional and organized. I knew that with all of the stress that my wedding brought, NONE of it would be coming from anything involving the photography. She is trustworthy, dependable….and, oh ya, a PHENOMENAL photographer. The pictures we have received so far have been better than we could have ever hoped! Family and friends who have seen them say that they look like they are coming straight out of a wedding magazine! She is just awesome.”

“Time was of the essence and Marissa was able to work with the difficult lighting in a short amount of time at our venue. She was super sweet and calming throughout the whole process and for a bride that is key in the midst of your wedding day. I absolutely love her style. It doesn’t matter where you get married, I have every confidence that she will make sure she captures the beauty in all of it. We are so completely happy that we invested in her for our wedding day. The day goes by so fast and we knew it was so important to have a great photographer so we could look back and appreciate all of the beautiful things on our special day.”
