Details From This Styled Lake Placid Elopement

This Lake Placid wedding session is the perfect inspiration for a Fall elopement in Upstate NY. The couple took a boat ride through the lake with Whiteface Mountain in the backdrop along with the vibrant fall foliage around them.

“When planning your Lake Placid elopement, think about the scenery that you want to have and the season. We have bald mountains, lakes, forests, waterfalls, rivers, and old-timey covered bridges. My favorite seasons to elope in Lake Placid are the fall and the winter. In the fall, the foliage is beautiful and the winter brings great skiing and the opportunity for other amazing winter sport activities! Whatever the season, there will be some limitations as to what you can and cannot do, so think about what is important to you. For example, if you want to hike on your elopement day, it might be best to avoid the spring and mud season, as trails are delicate.” [Molly, the photographer]

How to Plan Your Elopement in the Area

The first and probably most important thing when planning your elopement is to make sure you have the necessary permit information you need. Molly, the photographer from Outdoor Chronicles Photography, tells us there are a few locations that require reservations, especially private properties.

“If you are planning to elope on Whiteface Mountain or on Adirondack Mountain Reserve property, reservations may be required depending on the time of year. Depending on your elopement style and where you decide to elope, you may also be limited on your group size, specifically in the back country.” [Molly, the photographer]

This is why we always recommend teaming up with a professional who knows the area well enough to ensure you are following the rules and avoiding any fines.

How to Personalize Your Elopement

The best part about eloping is you have more of the freedom to style and include unique aspects into your wedding day you may not be able to include during a more traditional wedding.

During this styled Lake Placid elopement, one of the highlights was the private boat ride on the lake itself. This allows the couple to have more of an intimate adventure, and it also lets your photographer/videographer capture some pretty epic shots.

“For couples trying to plan out their elopement style, I recommend they take some time off from social media! I would spend some time thinking about not only the things that are important to you, but also the things that are NOT important to you. Sometimes starting from an absence can help craft the day. I would then spend some time thinking about what inspires you most in life- is it trying new things or perhaps a specific location? Lastly, I recommend that you imagine waking up in the morning. What do you hear? What do you smell? Let that guide you and inspire the style of your elopement.” [Molly, the photographer]

Are You Ready to Plan Your NY Elopement?

Just like this styled Lake Placid elopement, there are so many options around New York. Molly recommends hiring local vendors who are regularly in touch with rangers and others in the community to make sure you have the best experience. These vendors can also be a great resource if you’re trying to find a specific location in the area, or if you have a specific vision you’re trying to bring to life.

“In the past two years, there have been a lot of rule and regulation changes, so what might have been true 6 months ago may have changed. Working with someone who knows the lay of the land, and the people, can be greatly beneficial!” [Molly, the photographer]

This advice doesn’t just go for elopements around NY either, but everywhere. If you’re not completely convinced to elope in the New York area, then explore our best places to elope to get more location inspiration for your wedding day.
