Kelly and Jason’s Elopement in Moab With Their 2 Dogs

This intimate elopement captured this couple’s desire for a low-key celebration in multiple scenic locations in Moab, complete with waterfalls, greenery, and views that welcomed their dogs. The day began with a hike to waterfalls, followed by exploring remote plateaus, and a ceremony where the bride sang to Jason, who played an Andean flute in return. About This Elopement

Photography by Out West Elopements

“This was an intimate elopement with a couple who wanted something low-key, in multiple locations that allow their dogs and included water, greenery, and a beautiful view.

We started their elopement with a short hike to the waterfalls outside of Moab followed by little remote locations to explore Moab’s most beautiful plateau. My clients, who live in a small town in CO, run spiritual retreats and that’s what connected them in the first place. They wanted their ceremony to include the bride singing her love to Jason, and him playing the Andean flute melody to her. They used sage and copal to bless 4 directions of the Earth the West, East, South, and North, and cleanse their bodies. Everything was very intentional and beautiful.” [Alina, the photographer]

Planning Your Elopement + Top Tips

“In order to elope at this location, my couple needed a permit from BLM of Moab and so did I, their photographer. Also, photographers need a permit to shoot in Moab’s BLM obtained from their office. The permit is good for 1 year.

I took my clients to 3 different spots around Moab for the diversity of landscape. The first two locations (the waterfalls and the mountains didn’t require much walking or hiking), but the ceremony spot for sunset, required a high-clearance vehicle car. We had to walk the last 0.5 miles because the road was very bumpy despite driving an off-road vehicle.” [Alina, the photographer]

About the Couple

“As a photographer and storyteller, I love intentional ceremonies. When my clients called for a consul call and told me they wanted to incorporate spiritual traditions from Latin America using plant medicine such as tobacco, copal, and ancient instruments I was very excited. I love ceremonies with uniqueness and intention, which emphasize what is important between the two people. My clients also wanted to include their two dogs, so I needed to find dog-friendly locations. The dogs were wearing purple (one of the chakra colors) collars.” [Alina, the photographer]

Memorable Moments From This Elopement

From the photographer:

“The ceremony- it was simple yet very special and unique. My couple decided to use music as a medium to sing vows to each other. Jason played an ancient flute for his wife Kelly while she sang a beautiful song for him. I loved the sensory stimulation; hearing the music, smelling sage and copal, and looking at the sunset.”

Final Words of Advice

“Make your elopement as personal as you can. Incorporate every Element that would make it personalized. Whether it’s including a sport activity, your pets or children, favorite instruments, foods or beliefs.” [Alina, the photographer]
