About This Elopement
“As we drove up toward the location of the helicopter pad, we couldn’t even see the mountains. The wildfire smoke was crazy but we persevered towards the mountain range, hoping for a change in the wind. A huge part of what I do for my couples is navigating logistics and roadblocks, so when this was ahead of us, I called the helicopter company and together we navigated the best time to go for it. Due to their expertise, they knew the perfect spot to go and Emily and Jon were able to say their vows ontop of the world!!
After getting ready in their campervan by Abraham Lake, we flew in the helicopter to a remote spot where Jon and Emily could say their vows privately. They celebrated with epic dancing and champagne, the perfect elopement near Banff National Park!Emily and Jon have awesome dance moves and we had a blast capturing their first dance, it was so much fun! Jon was so tentative towards Emily’s needs, ensuring she was comfortable and moving her hair when it went out of place. It was so sweet to witness the amount of care between them. Their ability to be flexible, patient and trust us to guide them through itinerary adaptations made everything move along seamlessly while having so much fun together!” [Liz, the photographer]

Top Tips When Planning
“Jason and I are a photography and videography team that always follows Leave No Trace, no matter where we bring our couples, and we apply all the principles to any location. On that note, when planning and preparing for Emily and Jon’s helicopter elopement, we recommended packing essential mountain weather items such as; layered clothing, hiking boots, rain/shell jacket (hot tip: mountain weather can change on a dime!). The area we were in was more secluded so we advised for them to pack a lunch (they got takeout in Lake Louise), snacks, and water as well. We never want hangry vibes! lol
Our top tip for this location is to have a backup satellite phone (we also have one in our kit in case our couple’s forget theirs) and download all your maps. It is more remote and reception can be dicey so it’s important to be prepared for being offline and in dead zones. We also recommend booking your accommodation 1-2 years in advance for this area as they tend to book up very quickly and don’t have a lot of selection to choose from.” [Liz, the photographer]
Memorable Moments During This Elopement
From the photographer:
“The music they chose for their first dance was so much fun! We love co-creating the small, sentimental pieces with our couples and weaving them into their day. It creates depth for a couple’s story, for them, designing a thoughtful and fun music playlist was so sentimental and nostalgic for their story.”
Final Words of Advice
“My biggest advice for eloping couples is to go beyond the planning for the big beats of the day like your ceremony, first dance etc. and remember to intentionally add in sentimental moments that are important to you both. This enables us as photographers and videographers to capture the depth of your love story.” [Liz, the photographer]
