About This Small Wedding

Photography by Raelin | Photographer

“Jesus and Jocelyn were the first wedding at Crystal Mountain Sky Camp. It’s a seasonal glamping location with a lot of activity options and 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains that’s typically completely covered in snow most of the year. Although on this summer day, we were fogged in, which created a dreamy and otherworldly moody feel for their elopement. Jesus went to school in Hawaii and Jocelyn grew up on Maui, but they both met here in Washington.

It’s always special when couples bring pieces of themselves into their wedding. The best highlight from this wedding, aside from the stunning location and weather, was the hula performance from Jocelyn to close the night. Hawaii is something we all had in common. Jocelyn and her family are from Hawaii, and Jesus and myself and others had all lived in Hawaii for years, and including the culture was significant. Her performance captured our hearts instantly. I don’t think anyone got away without spilling a few tears.” [Raelin, the photographer]

Permits and LNT & Top Tips

“At Crystal Sky Camp, their resort makes practicing leave no trace convenient. However, couples and their families will need to follow leave no trace while exploring the outdoors. Keeping to designated trails will help preserve the landscape and wildflowers that are especially delicate in alpine areas. We saw marmots and other wildlife during our time here, so take care not to feed them or leave food accessible, and dispose of any trash properly. Ask the resort staff if you were interested in bringing anything celebratory (throwing rice, flower petals, sparklers, etc.) since we typically want to avoid introducing non-native materials in mountain environments, even if they are degradable. Popping champagne can also be substituted for sparkling water to have a more minimal impact!

Be prepared for unpredictable weather! Having a plan A, plan B, and plan C, for different weather and being flexible within those options can ensure a smooth elopement / small wedding experience. Everything from attire for you and guests, the ceremony location, and the time of day of the ceremony can be taken into account. Weather around mountains can move quickly, but that’s also part of the beauty of eloping in wild spaces.” [Raelin, the photographer]

About The Couple

“Capturing their energy was a priority, as these two have always held a household full of smiles and laughter. But I also wanted to harness it by capturing those small expressions of love that frequently go unnoticed. Overall, Jocelyn and Jesus inspire you to feel ‘big’ when you’re around them, life is bigger, moments are bigger, who you are matters. I’ve known Jocelyn and Jesus for some time, and I was beyond honored to be there and photograph their pared-down, intimate wedding experience.” [Raelin, the photographer]

Memorable Moments From This Elopement

From the photographer:

“Some of my favorite photos from this wedding come from before the ceremony, while they were getting ready in the soft mountain light filtering through the windows. We watched the weather and rain from here, and it made these moments feel cozy and romantic. We waited for the rain to lift before leaving the safety of the lodge, but the mountains were socked in. The heavy clouds and mist made this experience absolutely ethereal. At the Crystal Sky Camp, you’re completely surrounded by the mountains, and 360 degrees of fog-covered hills felt profound.

Jocelyn and Jesus had foraged for berries the morning of their wedding, one of the outdoor activities the resort had on the agenda that day in addition to yoga, guided hiking, and others. They included the berries they hand-picked on their wedding cake, and it was an intentional way to make their wedding feel full-circle (not to mention being some of the best berries we’ve ever had!).”
