Icebergs, Wildflowers, and Helicopter Views at This Seward Alaska Elopement

Introduction

Seward, Alaska has a way of making every direction feel expansive. Between the rugged coastline, glacier views, and shifting weather moving through Resurrection Bay, the landscape constantly changes throughout the day. For Emily and Levi, it became the setting for an elopement that balanced quiet moments with adventure, while still leaving room to celebrate with the people closest to them.

Their day moved naturally from one experience to the next. A beach ceremony with siblings and friends led into coffee and mini donuts at the harbor before they boarded a helicopter and flew out toward Bear Lagoon. Massive floating icebergs, wildflowers along the shoreline, and panoramic views over the bay shaped the second half of the day before everyone reunited in town to celebrate late into the evening.

What stood out most throughout their elopement was how relaxed and intentional everything felt. Emily and Levi chose to spend the day exploring Alaska together with the people they love most, creating a celebration that reflected exactly what mattered to them.

Meet Emily & Levi

Emily and Levi wanted an experience centered around adventure, exploration, and time with their closest people. Instead of planning a large traditional wedding, they invited only their siblings and friends to join them in Seward for their elopement day. According to their photographer, the group brought an easygoing and celebratory energy from the very beginning of the day.

Their photographer described Emily and Levi as incredibly fun to work with. “Emily & Levi were so much fun to work with. They were easy to talk to, laughed so much together, and just had a lot of fun exploring Alaska,” their photographers described the lovely couple. Whether they were walking along the rocky beach after the ceremony or stepping into a helicopter for the first time, they approached the day with excitement, openness, and fully embraced every part of the experience.

Their Vision & Planning Process

Emily and Levi worked closely with their photography team throughout the planning process. From the beginning, the team provided a location questionnaire to help narrow down where in Alaska the couple wanted to elope and what type of experience they envisioned. They also helped guide conversations around nearby towns, hiking information, activities, accommodations, and permit regulations.

“We love having a hand in the planning because it helps to make the couples day come to life,” said their photographers, Becky and Brian from Scenic Vows. Once Seward and the helicopter experience were selected, the planning became even more personalized. Their photographers helped provide recommendations for vendors including hair and makeup artists and other local professionals. They also assisted with building the timeline, organizing logistics surrounding the marriage license, and sharing local recommendations for food, hikes, and activities around town.

That support became especially important when weather unexpectedly changed their original plans. Emily and Levi were initially scheduled to get married on June 13, but a storm moved through the area and made helicopter flights unsafe for the day. Rather than forcing the schedule, the vendor team coordinated with the couple and their hair and makeup artist to move everything to the following day. Thankfully, everyone involved was flexible enough to make the change work smoothly.

Because the day involved multiple locations, transportation logistics, and changing weather conditions, having an experienced team helped everything flow naturally. Instead of worrying about adjustments or coordination, Emily and Levi were able to stay focused on enjoying the experience together.

Why They Chose Seward, Alaska

Emily and Levi knew they wanted to elope somewhere in Alaska and hoped to include a helicopter experience as part of the day. Their photographer recommended Seward because of the access it provides to glaciers, coastal landscapes, mountain views, and remote locations that can only be reached by air.

Working with Marathon Helicopters helped shape the final vision for the day. Because the photography team had previous experience flying with Mike and his crew, they knew they could create the type of adventurous experience Emily and Levi were looking for. The combination of beach access, glacier views, and helicopter landings throughout the Seward area made it possible to experience multiple landscapes within a single day.

The location also gave them the flexibility to balance intimacy with celebration. They could share a private helicopter adventure together while still spending the day surrounded by siblings and friends back in town. That mix of remote scenery and close community became one of the defining parts of their elopement experience.

Permits and Leave No Trace

The Seward area includes several different types of managed land, which means permit requirements can vary depending on exactly where couples plan to elope or explore. According to their photographer, researching which branch of land management oversees a specific area is an important first step when planning an Alaska elopement. Some locations may require permits while others may have different restrictions or access guidelines. Working with local vendors who are familiar with the region can make navigating those logistics much easier.

Leave No Trace principles were especially important throughout Emily and Levi’s helicopter adventure because many of the areas they explored were remote and undeveloped. Their photographer emphasized the importance of packing out all trash since waste bins are not commonly available in these locations. During the helicopter portion of the day, the group also relied heavily on their pilot to help guide them toward safe places to walk and explore around Bear Lagoon and the glacier areas.

For couples considering an elopement in Seward, their photographer strongly recommends working with experienced local professionals who understand both the terrain and the logistics involved. Their biggest recommendation was hiring Mike and the team at Marathon Helicopters because of the care they put into each experience. Having knowledgeable local vendors can help couples safely navigate changing weather, remote access points, and location planning while still creating an adventurous and meaningful day.

The Day Itself

Getting Ready Together in Seward

Emily and Levi began their day at a cabin in Seward surrounded by siblings and close friends. They chose to get ready together rather than separately, creating a relaxed start to the morning before everyone headed toward the ceremony location.

The atmosphere throughout the morning reflected the tone of the rest of the day. Their group stayed close together, laughed often, and treated the entire experience as a shared adventure rather than a formal event.

A Beach Ceremony at Lowell Point

Once everyone arrived at Lowell Point Beach, the group walked out together along the shoreline before the ceremony began. The beach gave them space to gather naturally while still being surrounded by the dramatic coastal scenery Seward is known for.

Before the ceremony, they spent time taking group photos together along the beach. Becky Haskell officiated the ceremony while Emily and Levi’s siblings and closest friends stood nearby watching. After exchanging vows and officially getting married, the celebration immediately shifted into a more relaxed afternoon along the shoreline.

The group explored the rocky areas around the beach while sharing beers and watching for eagles flying overhead. Instead of rushing into the next event, they allowed themselves time to enjoy the landscape and spend time together after the ceremony.

Coffee and Mini Donuts at the Harbor

After leaving Lowell Point Beach, everyone headed toward Caines Head Coffee truck near the harbor for a quick stop together. The coffee stand is run by a local couple and became a casual gathering point before the next part of the adventure began.

The group grabbed coffee and the shop’s well known mini donuts while taking a short break between locations. It was a simple part of the day, but it added another opportunity for everyone to spend time together before Emily and Levi continued on for the helicopter portion of the experience.

Flying Toward Bear Lagoon

After coffee, Emily and Levi headed to meet Marathon Helicopters near the airport. Levi had never flown in a helicopter before, and their photographer later shared that his expression before takeoff was one of the most memorable moments of the entire day. The mixture of excitement, awe, and nervousness made the experience feel even more unforgettable.

The helicopter flight carried them toward Bear Lagoon and Bear Glacier, where they landed near the shoreline surrounded by floating icebergs. Seeing the massive chunks of ice up close became one of the highlights not only for the couple but also for the photography team, who were visiting the area for the first time themselves.

Walking along the coastline gave Emily and Levi time to slow down and explore together. Wildflowers covered parts of the shoreline while icebergs drifted nearby in the water. The contrast between the soft landscape and the glacier views created a setting that felt both expansive and intimate at the same time.

Above the Lagoon

The second helicopter landing brought them higher above the lagoon where they could look out across the surrounding mountains and coastline. From there, they spotted mountain goats moving along the hillside while a storm slowly rolled into the bay in the distance.

Changing weather became part of the experience rather than a disruption. Clouds and storms moved through the landscape throughout the afternoon, shifting the light and atmosphere around them as they explored each location.

Views Over Resurrection Bay

For the final stop of the helicopter tour, they landed above Caines Head Point overlooking Resurrection Bay. From the ridge line, they could see out toward the ocean while also looking back toward the town of Seward below them. The views stretched in every direction around them.

The stop gave them a final quiet moment together before returning to town. After spending the afternoon surrounded by glaciers, mountains, and open coastline, they eventually made their way back to reconnect with everyone waiting for them in Seward.

Pool, Drinks, and a Late Night Celebration

Back in town, Emily and Levi reunited with their siblings and friends at Tony’s Bar & Liquor Store where everyone spent time playing pool and celebrating together. The evening continued at the town square where food trucks had gathered for the night.

To end the day, the group shared dinner together at Flamingo Lounge, one of their photographers’ favorite local restaurants in Seward. After a day filled with helicopters, glaciers, beach views, and constantly changing scenery, the evening settled into something simple and celebratory surrounded by the people who had been there through every part of the experience.

Personal Touches

Emily and Levi intentionally stepped away from many traditional wedding expectations while planning their elopement. Instead of building the day around formal traditions, they focused on creating an unforgettable trip with their siblings and closest friends.

Their decision to get ready together helped establish the relaxed and connected atmosphere that carried throughout the entire day. The group dynamic also became one of the most memorable parts of the experience. According to their photographer, everyone involved loved to laugh, celebrate, and fully embrace the adventure together.

Even smaller moments throughout the day reflected that approach. Sharing beers along the beach after the ceremony, stopping for coffee and donuts, and ending the evening over pool and dinner all helped make the experience feel personal to them and grounded in spending quality time together.

Photographer Perspective

For Becky Haskell and the Scenic Vows team, one of the most memorable parts of the day was experiencing Bear Lagoon and Bear Glacier for the first time alongside Emily and Levi. Seeing the massive floating icebergs up close felt surreal and added a sense of scale to the adventure that stayed with everyone involved.

They also remembered the energy Emily and Levi brought into every part of the experience. From laughing together throughout the day to Levi’s unforgettable reaction before stepping into the helicopter for the first time, the couple approached the entire elopement with excitement and openness. Their willingness to fully embrace the experience helped shape the atmosphere of the day from beginning to end.

Expert Advice from the Photographer

“I’d say hire a team that can help you navigate the how/what/where/when, so that you get their expert knowledge and the day you want without the stress of having to figure it all out on your own.”

Final Reflection

Emily and Levi’s Seward elopement centered less on tradition and more on creating experiences together. Every part of the day reflected that decision, from getting ready together at their cabin to flying over glaciers and ending the night playing pool with friends in town.

The changing weather, remote landscapes, and helicopter landings gave the day an adventurous rhythm, but the moments that connected everything were often the simplest ones. Sharing coffee together at the harbor, walking along the shoreline after the ceremony, and reconnecting with their group at the end of the night gave the day a grounded and personal feeling throughout.

What made the experience feel especially meaningful was how intentionally Emily and Levi chose to celebrate. They created space for both intimacy and community, balancing private moments together with the people who mattered most to them. Their elopement became less about following expectations and more about fully experiencing Alaska in a way that felt true to who they are together.

Even after exploring glaciers, spotting mountain goats, and flying over Resurrection Bay, the day still returned to what mattered most from the beginning: being surrounded by people they love while sharing an unforgettable experience together.
