Greek Isles Elopement in Imerovigli, Santorini | Amanda & Adam
Amanda and Adam’s elopement story is enough to make anyone with chronic wanderlust drool. Though Australia is their home, this wayfaring couple is often found elsewhere, zigzagging the earth to explore mountains, deserts, and beaches worldwide. Amanda’s dream of being married amongst the iconic blue domes of Santorini became a reality when the couple packed their bags and set off for Imerovigli. Their plan? Elope upon arrival and immediately begin a swoon-worthy three-month honeymoon across the globe!
Their photographer, Kimon Kaketsis, described their elopement as the sweetest, most intimate affair. “…they wanted a wedding that was very them… [Although it is] tradition for couples not to see each other before the big reveal, this couple chose to get ready together. They had a calm and romantic experience before they headed out barefoot into the Greek sun.” Amanda and Adam kicked off their big day by climbing to the roof of their hotel, taking in spectacular views and playfully incorporating white balloons into their portraits. They later wandered the streets of Imerovigli before making their way to a secluded church, tucked behind Santorini’s Skaros Rock. As the sun began to set, the couple exchanged handwritten vows, their gentle voices barely audible against the sea. For Kimon, this moment was the highlight of the day. He shares, “This particular session reinforced why I do what I do. [These] two people didn’t follow convention and had a union that was truly them, and I had the insane privilege to photograph it all.”

CHOOSING TO ELOPE:
“When you travel, you always come home a little changed – for the better. As a couple, it’s what keeps us humble and nurtures our relationship. It definitely keeps our hearts close, and [we] are truly thankful for everything we have, which above all else, we will always [include] each other. To us, eloping was a no brainer, the ultimate symbol of everything we love about life and each other… It definitely wasn’t something all of our family accepted at first – and perhaps still [does] not – but we knew it would be cherished more by ourselves than in front of anyone else. In the end, it was perfect in every single way. It was what we wanted and the most intimate experience we’ve accomplished together.”
“I HAVE A RELENTLESS NEED TO DOCUMENT RELATIONSHIPS AND CHASE LOVE. NOT ONLY DO I WANT TO TAKE ROMANTIC PICTURES OF MY COUPLES, I WANT TO SHOWCASE THE QUALITY OF THEIR CONNECTION. I STRIVE TO CELEBRATE TWO PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO BE BETTER INDIVIDUALS BECAUSE THEY ARE IN LOVE.”

CHOOSING A PHOTOGRAPHER:
“We are incredibly thankful to our photographer… so blessed and in awe of how unique and beautifully intimate our photos are. He captured every fleeting moment, every step, every laugh, every nervous look. When I look at the photos, it’s like we are right back there walking those same steps. No moment will ever be forgotten… To us, the memory of our day was our number one priority… [Kimon] is the reason our day went the way it did, he delivered on my every request and even more… Know exactly what you want to see in your photos, and be open and honest about how your day should be portrayed. After all, you’re trusting them to tell your story by capturing all those delicate moments only you are witness to.”
“…EVEN THOUGH WE LET THE DAY JUST HAPPEN, WE WERE IN COMMUNICATION, PLANNING FOR MONTHS BEFORE THE ELOPEMENT DATE. SINCE IT’S SO INTIMATE, SOMETIMES [COUPLES] DON’T HIRE WEDDING PLANNERS, AND [PHOTOGRAPHERS] HAVE TO TAKE ON SOME OF THAT RESPONSIBILITY. WE DIDN’T LEAVE ANY DETAIL UNEXPLORED, AND BECAUSE OF THAT, EVERYTHING WAS DONE AND READY TO GO!”
