Spring arrived gently in the high country of northern Arizona. The forests outside Flagstaff were still waking from winter, with cool air, open skies, and early hints of green returning to the landscape. The pace of the day unfolded slowly, shaped by quiet trails, open meadows, and space to pause and take it all in.

When Kelsey and Mike began dreaming up their spring elopement, they imagined mountain views, forest air, and a setting where they could be fully themselves. Flagstaff offered that balance. Their day moved with intention and ease, beginning with an off road drive along a secluded forest trail and continuing into a ceremony held among ferns. Each moment was given room to unfold without pressure or performance.

Kelsey and Mike describe themselves as best friends first. When asked who would be attending their elopement, each answered that their best friend would be there, referring to one another. That dynamic carried through the entire experience. Their connection was easy, familiar, and rooted in shared values.

Eloping felt like a natural choice for them because it allowed the moment to belong entirely to the two of them. They shared that being in nature, without guests, would allow them to feel everything fully and honestly. Privacy mattered. Emotional freedom mattered. They wanted a day where nothing distracted from their commitment.

They also approached planning with clarity. Mike described himself as calm but detail oriented, someone who likes a realistic plan. Kelsey shared that she wanted to feel grounded, deeply in love, and fully herself. Together, they envisioned a day that was simple but meaningful, shaped by nature, good food, and space to connect.

“I want to feel so in love, excited about the future, and 100% myself,” Traci remembers Kelsey saying during the planning process. “I want to feel grounded with Mother Nature and feel as one, as she has provided so much peace and excitement for us and our relationship over the years.”

Throughout the process, they were thoughtful about each choice they made. From deciding not to invite family to choosing how the evening would end, their decisions reflected a desire to stay true to their relationship and how they experience the world together.

Their Vision & Planning Process

Traci and her team were closely involved throughout Kelsey and Mike’s planning process, using detailed questionnaires, email communication, and Zoom calls to understand what mattered most to them. This collaborative approach allowed the experience to be shaped intentionally, from the overall flow of the day to the smaller details that supported it.

“We communicated our desires to them,” the couple shares, “and their questionnaires were really great at allowing us to share our thoughts while they got to know us.”

Location guidance and logistics were a key part of the planning support. Traci helped the couple narrow down exact locations that aligned with their priorities, while also sharing local insight about the Flagstaff area. Because their chosen locations did not require a permit, planning was able to stay simple and flexible. Bill played an important role in shaping the ceremony itself. He wrote and officiated the ceremony, helping guide its structure in a way that felt personal and grounded. Planning support extended beyond conversations as well. When the couple shared their hope for a first dance on the deck of their A frame cabin after dark, Traci and her team scouted the property in advance and assisted with exterior lighting so the evening could unfold smoothly for both photo and video coverage.

Timing played an important role in choosing where to elope. Kelsey and Mike wanted to marry in May, with mountains, mild temperatures, and the possibility of wildflowers. They hoped to avoid snow while still feeling immersed in forest and elevation.

They worked closely with their photographer and officiant team to explore options that fit those needs. While areas in the Pacific Northwest were considered, the possibility of rain felt like a risk they did not want to take. Arizona offered something familiar and steady.

Flagstaff stood out because it blended everything they were looking for. They had lived in Arizona for nine months previously and loved it. The area offered mountain air, forest trails, and open views, all while maintaining a high chance of sunshine. It felt like a place that aligned with their vision and their history.

Morning in the Forest

The morning began with an off road drive through the forest, the Bronco carrying them along a quiet trail toward a secluded vista. Once there, they got ready outdoors, standing on opposite sides of the vehicle. The setting was simple and open, allowing the morning to unfold without interruption or hurry. It was a calm start, shaped by fresh air, tall trees, and the space to settle into the day.

When it was time, Mike made his way to the ceremony location and waited among the ferns. Kelsey approached on foot, her walk toward him serving as both the beginning of the ceremony and their first look. The moment was emotional and unguarded. Seeing her in her dress brought Mike to tears, a reaction filled with joy and anticipation rather than nerves.

They allowed the moment to breathe before moving forward, giving themselves time to be fully present together. The transition from getting ready to seeing one another felt natural, unstructured, and deeply aligned with how they wanted the day to begin. Nothing was rushed. Nothing was staged. It was simply the two of them meeting each other in the forest, exactly where the day needed to start.

A Ceremony Held in Quiet Intention

Bill officiated their ceremony, which unfolded with ease and warmth. Smiles and shared laughter moved naturally into the exchange of private, handwritten vows. Together, Kelsey and Mike also recited a favorite poem, The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman, grounding the ceremony in words that already held meaning for them.

After sealing the ceremony with a dip kiss, they took a moment alone. They slipped off their rings to discover the surprise engravings hidden inside, messages they had chosen for one another. The pause was unhurried and personal, allowing the weight of the moment to settle before the day continued.

Wandering Along the Ridge

Portraits unfolded along the ridgeline, with views stretching toward Sedona in the distance. Lupines were unexpectedly in bloom, something Kelsey had hoped for but did not expect in May, and the flowers quickly became a highlight of the day.

From there, they continued along dusty two track roads, stopping where the light felt right. Ponderosa pines filtered the afternoon sun as they moved between locations, allowing the day to unfold naturally without feeling fixed or rushed.

Meadow Moments Near Humphreys Peak

In an open meadow with Humphreys Peak behind them, they spread out a blanket. They shared a local beer, cut their cake, and watched surprise video messages sent by friends and family. The moment brought both laughter and tears.

“During sunset, they ran around the open field, dancing and playing. It was carefree, it was happy, and it was freeing.” Traci and the team recalls.

Evening at the Cabin

As the sun set, they returned to their A frame cabin tucked among the pines. Twinkle lights glowed on the deck. They took a shot together, made heart shaped pizzas, signed their marriage paperwork, and shared their first dance to Taylor Swift’s “New Year’s Day.” They kept dancing as the pizzas baked, ending the night cuddled together inside.

Several personal elements shaped the day. Their rings featured surprise engravings inside, revealed only after the ceremony. Their vows were handwritten and shared privately.

The evening included making personal pizzas together, turning dinner into a shared activity rather than a formal event. Music played an important role as well, with multiple dances on the cabin deck simply because they wanted to.

“My wife’s incredible dress stole the show and it felt like all the comments from the family and friends involved the dress in some way.” Mike says.
