Multi-Day Backpacking Elopement – Beartooth Mountains

Mountain magic, starry night skies, alpenglow mornings, and incredible sunsets – one day isn’t enough and you want a true adventure to start out your life together as a married couple! The Beartooth mountains boast rugged peaks, lakes galore, and picturesque camping sites. With a minimum two day timeframe, you can complete a more simple out and back overnight trip, or feel free to add on extra days to make it a through-hike in some of the most gorgeous landscapes Montana has to offer!

The trip starts with a hike through an old burn scar brimming with new growth and greenery that follows a rushing river, fed from the lake that is our destination a few miles in. Rocky cliff faces surround you as you arrive at the sandy shoreline. You make camp at a found location and take some time to simply relax after the hike, resting in a hammock, drinking freshly filtered lake water, and munching on delicious snacks.

As the sun starts to settle above the distant ridgeline, you don your wedding attire, fix your hair, and make your way to the rocky beach for your private ceremony. With no one else around, you are able to confidently and comfortably say your innermost promises with one another and be fully present in the moment. The sun finally makes its exit and you retreat back to camp for a cozy fire and s’mores, enjoying the stars and Milky Way overhead.

The next morning, you wake to chirping birds and mist rising off the water. With a hot cup of coffee, you sit at the edge of the lake and enjoy the sunrise together, warming you with its presence. You adventure out around the lake and find some wild berries to add to your breakfast. With bellies and hearts full, you pack up camp and make the journey back to the trailhead.
