Hidden Gem Wedding Venue in Ohio: Cannaley Treehouse Village

If you’re planning a small wedding, then an intimate wedding venue is sometimes the best option for celebrating your wedding day, especially if that venue has whimsical adventure vibes like this one. Lauren and Mark chose to host their intimate wedding at a treehouse village in Northern Ohio. Cannaley Treehouse Village in Northern Ohio is perfect for an October wedding nestled in the woods.

“The couple spent the bigger part of the day on their own, getting ready in their cozy treehouse – the Nest and then wandering off to the woods to enjoy a charcuterie picnic. They really cared about having a low-key experience, without having to follow strict timelines and a shot list. They wanted me to capture candid moments of them enjoying each other before getting married. After having a bite, ventured out to a lake and explored a beautiful fall field with tall grass. Lauren and Mark celebrated with their families at this venue followed by gathering around a bonfire and having s’mores.” [Yana, the photographer]

Planning Your Wedding at Cannaley Treehouse Village

This wedding venue is also perfect if you’re looking for an overnight stay. This makes this spot ideal for small weddings like this one or intimate elopements between just the couple.

“This venue is an absolute hidden gem in Northern Ohio, so it is perfect for couples looking for a unique rustic venue that consists of several treehouses. It is ideal for couples coming from the Midwest that love the outdoors and want to invite their closest circle of family and friends. There are several houses that can accommodate guests in one general area, but the houses are far enough from each other that the experience feels secluded and intimate. This is great for couples that want to share their celebration with their guests, but also want to make sure to have time to themselves.

This place is charming on its own even without wedding decor, but couples can decorate in many different styles. Rustic or bohemian, the sky is the limit. While Lauren and Mark chose to marry on a deck of one of the treehouses, there are so many other spots that can accommodate a ceremony. Couples can add an arch to one of the wooden pathways, or have a fun ceremony on one of the hanging bridges. Couples who choose to marry at Cannaley Treehouse Village should know that they are only renting the venue, so they will either have to find a wedding planner in the area to help them secure a caterer, bar service, music/DJ, chair rentals, etc., or they can choose the DYI route. Lauren and Mark had an amazing caterer on-site, but they did everything else themselves, which made it so meaningful.” [Yana, the photographer]

Top Tips for Eloping in Ohio

“Midwest is a little bit underrated compared to the PNW and the West in general, but there are so many wonderful hidden gems in the area. I mostly specialize in destination weddings and weddings in Michigan and Upper Peninsula which can offer landscapes featuring woods, lakes, beaches, dunes, dramatic cliffs, waterfalls and even mountains, Ohio also has some fantastic landscape! From the beautiful Hocking Hills State Park with caves and dramatic rocks to Cuyahoga Valley National Park with woods and waterfalls. I’ve recently heard that the Toledo Zoo also hosts intimate weddings and apparently the giraffe section is very popular!” [Yana, the photographer]

Details We Love From This Wedding Day

whimsical forest elopement in Ohio

Charcuterie boards and forest adventures? Count us in! We love how this couple had a mini adventure and how detailed their ceremony was.

“I loved that Lauren and Mark wanted to do an adventure session before their wedding ceremony. It was late October, so we were very lucky the weather held that day. We did have a few sprinkles, but as they say – rain on a wedding day is good luck because it means it will last. The couple scouted 3 fantastic locations for their portraits. A woodsy area with a little teepee, which is where we had our charcuterie snacks, a field location with tall grass that looked like a savannah and a trail next to one of the lakes with a bridge. The fall colors were peaking, so the locations looked very charming. I loved adventuring with the two, talking about life and truly getting to know them through their intimate wedding experience. This is what I love the most about my job.” [Yana, the photographer]

Memorable Moments From the Day

“I loved the couple’s vows, they were emotional and beautifully meaningful. Since they only had their closest family and friends present at the wedding, the whole day felt unique and intimate. There was no stress or drama, the day was well planned and structured, but we went with the flow whenever we needed to. I loved that.” [Yana, the photographer]
