About This Elopement
Photography by The Organic Moment Photography
“Jamie and Brandon’s love story unfolds at Mistaya Canyon in Banff National Park. Against the backdrop of turquoise waters and the towering canyon, Jamie and Brandon exchanged vows, surrounded by the vast canyon. Although it was a rainy day, the sun came out for them while they exchanged their vows and rings. They celebrated with a vegan pop tart picnic among the larch trees as they enjoyed the sound of the rushing canyon waters.
Their commitment to each other and the little moments of how they helped each other on the trail was so kind and nurturing to witness. It rained for most of their elopement day but their ability to be flexible, patient and trust us to guide them made the day move along seamlessly while having so much fun together!” [Liz, the photographer]
Planning Your Elopement at Mistaya Canyon
“I am a photographer that always follows Leave No Trace, no matter where I bring my couples, and I apply all the principles to any location. On that note, when planning and preparing for Mistaya Canyon, I advise couples to pack essential gear like hiking boots for the terrain, rain gear including a poncho and rain/shell jackets because mountain weather can change on a dime. I also include a garbage bag to ensure any food and drinks we bring onto the trail and into nature are brought out with us.
My top tips for this location is to plan for an early morning sunrise or evening sunset visit to avoid the mid-day crowds around the canyon. Although this spot used to be a hidden gem it is starting to become more popular. On that note, it’s still not as busy as the popular Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. Definitely bringing along hiking shoes for this area. If you’re not an avid hiker or have knee issues, hiking poles are helpful as the terrain is uneven and there are some steep small inclines and declines on the trail.” [Liz, the photographer]
Details We Love
“Their shared picnic was so fun to capture! They chose their favourite vegan treats including raspberry pop tarts. It was a fun, slow, and intentional moment for them to enjoy together. We love co-creating small, sentimental pieces with our couples and weaving them into their day. It creates depth for a couple’s story, and this was one of those little moments that was sentimental and nostalgic for them.” [Liz, the photographer]
Memorable Moments From This Elopement
From the photographer:
“Our favorite moment was definitely their ceremony! The kind words they expressed to each other and capturing the sweet interludes of emotion between them was so beautiful.”
Final Words of Advice
“My biggest advice for eloping couples is to go beyond the planning for the big beats of the day like your ceremony, first dance etc. and remember to intentionally add in sentimental moments that are important to you both. This enables us as photographers and videographers to capture the depth of your love story.” [Liz, the photographer]
