Misty Cliffs of Moher Wedding in County Clare, Ireland

Session: Intimate Destination Wedding

Location: Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

From the Photographer:

“Elizabeth and Matthew traveled to Ireland from Oklahoma… [They weren’t] worried about the unpredictable Irish weather, as Ireland is beautiful in any conditions… They woke up to thick fog, rain, and heavy winds blowing in from the ocean. Determined not to let anything dampen their spirits, Elizabeth and Matthew decided to go ahead with their plan of having their ceremony up on the cliffs despite the wild weather.

They hiked out through the fog and rain to their ceremony location, accompanied [by] their closest friends and family members… As their ceremony came to a close, like something out of a movie, the fog lifted and the sun shone through for just a brief moment, giving everyone a quick glimpse of the might Cliffs of Moher.”

CHOOSING A DESTINATION WEDDING:

“My husband and I knew we didn’t want a ‘traditional’ wedding. We love traveling and wanted to incorporate that into something intimate… We chose Ireland and particularly the Cliffs of Moher, because we had been there before so it made planning slightly easier… Plus, the Cliffs of Moher are breathtaking.”

PLANNING A DESTINATION WEDDING:

“Planning was truly a simple process. We didn’t have much to put into place. Cat, our photographer, was flying over from Austria. I found a florist, makeup artist, and hairstylist in a nearby village. In regards to flowers, I just needed a bouquet for my sister and [me] and some flowers for our hair. We stayed in a lodge in Doolin that was waking distance to the pub our reception dinner was at… The drive to the Cliffs was only about 15 minutes from our lodge, then we walked half a mile to the ceremony spot. We used the natural beauty as our backdrop so no decorations were necessary.”

THE ADVENTURE WEDDING EXPERIENCE:

“Our favorite part was how relaxed the whole day was — we weren’t stressed. We enjoyed getting up and having breakfast together before going our separate ways to get ready. I knew everything would turn out perfectly no matter what because we were in a beautiful county and I was marrying my best friend and love of my life.  I felt like we were able to truly soak in every moment and not worry. My advice would be to do what feels right for you. Don’t worry about what other people are telling you… Just be true to who you are as a couple and enjoy your day.”
