Planning a Tenerife Elopement
Tenerife in the Canary Islands is a gorgeous place to elope in Spain, perfect for your wedding day and honeymoon! Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands which form this Atlantic Ocean archipelago. Tenerife’s volcanic origin, jaw-dropping coastlines, and display of mother nature’s best work make it an amazing place to elope.
“Tenerife is over 12 million years old, formed from magma and volcanic activity off the Northern coast of Africa; Morocco specifically. If you love geology like me, you’ll be fascinated by the various rock formations and colors. These great the most incredible backdrops for stunning photos of your elopement.
If you’re planning a beach elopement at Tenerife, then keep in mind the same leave no trace principles most places have to preserve the natural beauty of this elopement destination. The more people to an area, the more impact it has on the environment. No popping of champagne or confetti. Just bring yourselves, your vows and intentions for your special day!” [Corey, the photograher]
Beach Weddings in Tenerife for Non-Residents who live outside Spain
For many couples, particularly those from colder climates, getting married on a beach is the most idyllic and romantic setting possible. This is a popular option in Tenerife but requires some planning.
“You will need to apply for a permit from the ‘Servicio Provincial de Costas’. This is particularly important, as fines of €3,000 or more have recently being issued for weddings conducted on the beach without a permit. A refundable deposit may also be required to cover any potential damage or cleaning required after the event, depending on each individual Town Hall’s requirements.
When applying, you will need to know the number of guests, how much space you need on the beach, and whether you will be bringing any decorations, furniture, or structures. It is recommended to apply for the permit at least 2 months in advance, in case of any bureaucratic delays.” [Corey, the photograher]
If you want to get legally married in Tenerife, at least one of the couples needs to be a legal resident of Spain. It is easier to get married in your home town and get the legal documents in your home country. You can still elope in Tenerife, but you’ll be planning a commitment ceremony instead of a legal ceremony.
If you are a legal resident, see more information here.

Details From This Elopement
“I love the dramatic backdrop of the coarse rocks and soft black sand beaches. It’s so moody and private for a couples elopement first thing in the morning at sunrise. The peace and serenity of Tenerife is electric. This volcanic island is known as Little Hawaii and is a hop, skip and a jump from Boston airport. A lot less time to travel than going to Hawaii for dramatic landscapes from volcanic black sand beaches, desert and lush forests. Tenerife has it all and the food is out of this world!
The hair and make-up for the couple! With the sea breeze, you have to embrace wild, windswept hair. Mikael’s curls were perfect.
The baby’s breath is so sweet and a nice touch, so light and carefree in the breeze. It’s super light and doesn’t need a lot of water to keep well. A bonus when planning an outdoor elopement. The team who were the planners and did flowers were amazing, so chill and friendly!
I love Kristina’s fringe dress and how it moves effortlessly in the sea breeze.” [Corey, the photograher]
