About This Elopement

Jordan Roepke Photography

“The first part of any of these trips for us is meeting with the couple and discussing possibilities for photo opportunities, travel arrangements, and overall adventure, possibilities! I always love to find off the beaten path places for the couples that I work with when planning an adventure elopement like the one we did for Adriana and Mitchell.

They had found a lovely little cabin to stay in, so we did all of their preparation, first look, and detailed photographs there. Along with some help from the adorable daughter, Charlotte! After their first look, we traveled to the Hoh Rainforest for some beautiful shots with nature, and then made our way over to the coast to catch a typical misty, foggy, dramatic Washington sunset.

On day two of our adventure, we made our way to Olympic Lake, for some additional couples and family portraits with the beautiful mountains in lake in the background.” [Jordan, the photographer]

Permits and Planning in HOH Rainforest

“Permitting in national parks is, in my experience, relatively lax. Hoh Rainforest did not have any specific permitting regulations, so we just made sure to bring out what we brought in, be courteous of all of the other people using the trails, and not spend too much time in any one specific location so as not to cause a traffic jam.

Both the Hoh Rainforest and Rialto Beach are very popular, so expect to be working around crowds, especially in the summer months. Neither trail is particularly difficult so normal hiking shoes will be fine, and the walks from the closest parking lot to the rainforest or the beach are relatively short.

Washington weather is known for being rainy and overcast, and that’s absolutely true! For your best bet to avoid the rain, July and August tend to be the clearest months to visit, and with the temperate nature of the Pacific Northwest, it tends to not be too hot or uncomfortable.” [Jordan, the photographer]

About the Couple

“I’ve been friends with Adriana for a number of years, as she is also an elopement photographer, and we’ve worked together on several occasions. When she was telling me about her dream of eloping in Washington, she lamented the fact that she couldn’t really find a photographer in the area that she jived with.

We ended up only having about 2 weeks to plan, but I found several locations around the rainforest for some other photo opportunities, and we decided on Rialto beach for sunset, as well as getting ready photos and a first look outside of their cabin Airbnb.” [Jordan, the photographer]

Details About This Elopement

“The attention to detail that Adriana put into everything was above and beyond the average elopement. I think a lot of couples tend to think about elopements as a way to eschew the traditional nuts and bolts of a wedding day and to do something unique and exciting, and that’s absolutely true!

But one of the things that can be left by the wayside when taking that approach is the small, sentimental details that still matter when looking back at your images, like the family heirlooms and bits and bobs that really make a wedding personal.” [Jordan, the photographer]

Memorable Moments From This Elopement

From the photographer:

“What was the most special for me was getting to be there with my friend, and helping her dream adventure elopement come to life! The best part about adventure elopements is the ADVENTURE! Adrianna, Mitchell, and I got to explore, find places off the beaten path, and share these moments together that I had the honor of capturing for them.

Being there when Mitchell saw her in her dress for the first time, or seeing how proud they both were of their daughter Charlotte being able to take this adventure with them despite suffering from a heart condition, it was all really wonderful.”

Final Words of Advice

“Even though we think of an elopement as being smaller than a traditional wedding, adventure elopements can take quite a bit of time and energy!

From driving for hours to the perfect locations, hiking several miles in all sorts of terrain and weather, getting dressed and undressed in public to make sure your clothes look their best (a pop up changing tent is a game changer!), we can spend 12-20 hours together on a day to capture all of the wonderful locations and beautiful moments with you and your partner.

Give yourself more than enough time to do everything, bring plenty of snacks and water, and plan downtime throughout the day to recuperate and keep your energy up! I promise, it will all be worth it!” [Jordan, the photographer]
