Elopements

Mount Sproatt Elopement in Whistler, British Columbia | Melissa & Anton

EVER WONDER HOW AN EVENT PLANNER BRINGS A COUPLE’S VISION TO LIFE? ERIN KINCAID OF BLISS EVENT + DESIGN IS HERE TO SHED SOME LIGHT!

Melissa and Anton chose to forego a formal wedding for a beautiful, intimate ceremony on Mount Sproatt in Whistler, British Columbia. The bride reveals, “We have always been drawn to mountains, we love hiking and seeing things that are off the beaten path. Anton proposed in New Hampshire on top of a mountain, so we thought it would be fitting to do our marriage ceremony on a mountain as well. We always talked of eloping, as we really wanted things to be intimate and just for us. Maybe too we’re both a bit shy when it comes to these types of things. Anton says the elopement was true to ourselves…and to be honest, we were too excited to be married to wait…”

Keep reading for Anton’s sweet vows to his wife, a summary of the day from the bride, and valuable insight into how Erin planned the perfect elopement!

Can you describe your creative process? What was your vision for this elopement?

The vision was focused on adventure. I had always dreamt of creating an adventurous wedding day going to the Mount Sproatt cabin. Once I had spoken to Melissa and Anton, I knew they would [be] game for this exact experience. It was like I was waiting all these years for them. They were even keen to bring their hiking boots, which was awesome. Overall, I [wanted] this rustic backcountry cabin experience to feel as glamorous and opulent as possible. Two worlds that seem impossible to combine but aren’t. Why can’t you be in the woods surrounded by trees and snowcapped mountains while sipping champagne from crystal champagne flutes listening to the expert sounds of a string quartet? The answer is you can. I feel that this is a truly Whistler experience. Combining the outdoors and luxury is something that belongs here.

THE VOWS:

“Melissa, I have been looking forward to this moment for a long time. You are my best friend and today, I choose you to be my wife. I promise to love you unconditionally and without hesitation. I promise to support you, to care for you, and respect you. Most importantly, I promise to make you smile and laugh everyday, and to bring adventure into our lives whenever possible… As we stand on this mountain which has endured eons of weathering, I believe it is no coincidence that this is where we are getting married. We have a love so strong, a bond unbreakable, that it is a fitting spot to begin together a new life adventure from this day on and all that will follow. I love you and look forward to getting old and weathered together like these mountains.”

What can you share about the couple and your experience working with them?

The funny thing is that even though I didn’t get an opportunity to really get to know the couple before the day, the elopement came to fruition quite quickly. I feel that as soon as I spoke with them, I knew their spirit. They met in school and always knew they were going to be together. They had dreams of eloping in a tropical location but life happened, they bought a house and finances changed the course of their elopement plans. In the end, it seems that fate took them in the other direction as the day couldn’t have fit them better. They were so comfortable and happy. It was where it was supposed to happen.

FROM THE BRIDE:

“The day Erin from Bliss Event + Design crafted could not have been more perfect. Even though she had never met us, she crafted something right out of our dreams. We gave her a description of us and who we are, we chatted about which aspects of a wedding day were important to us and then gave her the freedom to put her creativity to work. She delivered with a beautiful hotel and flowers, a 4×4 Jeep adventure to a mountain top cabin, champagne chilling in a lake, an amazing spread of picnic food, wine, and a string quartet for the perfect mix of backwoods and fancy.”

What were the highlights of the day?

The ceremony location was perfect. It was everything I had envisioned. When we went to scout a week or so before it was really cold and had just snowed. The day of their wedding it was super warm, like summer had returned for just one more day. All of the blueberry bushes had turned red, and they set the stage for the lake and mountain backdrop. Having Cascadia Quartet playing in that remote location was unforgettable… When [they] were all set up and played the first song to warm up, I almost cried. The sound resonating in the mountains was unforgettable. I am a true mountain girl, born and raised in Whistler, and this moment spoke to my soul.
